There are so many great activities for families to partake in around Rehoboth Beach as spring begins, and here at Beach View Hotel one of our favorite annual events is the Great Delaware Kite Festival at Cape Henlopen State Park!
An exciting experience for the whole family, you can spend your afternoon playing games, flying kites and enjoying delicious food from local vendors.
You can make your own kite or purchase one on-site to compete in the kite flying competitions.
There are three age divisions, providing flyers of all ages the chance to take home a title! Special awards will also be given out to the youngest and oldest flyers, the smallest and largest kites, and the flyer furthest from home. Registration is free; just sign up at the field throughout the morning to join in the fun.
This wasn’t just any duel though; it was a kite flying duel. Governor Russell Peterson asked Lieutenant Governor Gene Bookhammer to participate in the kite battle for him, and Bookhammer proved victorious two years in a row.
There are also a couple Easter themed activities for families to participate in at the kite flying event. At 11 a.m. there is an Easter egg hunt for children under the age of 12 and at 2 p.m. there is an egg toss for family members of all ages to join in.
Although the Great Delaware Kite Festival is a free event to participate in, the normal cost to enter Cape Henlopen State Park via car still applies. Delaware residents will be charged $5 and out-of-state vehicles will be charged $10.
We can’t wait to enjoy the beautiful spring weather with you!
