At Beach View Hotel
When did you start working at Beach View hotel and what attracted you to the position?
CG: I became Assistant manager at the Beach View Hotel last June. I was attracted to the position for many reasons. Mainly the opportunity to further my career in hospitality management.
Where and when did your career in hospitality start?
I started my career in hospitality over 13 years ago. At the age of 19, I became a front desk agent at a busy boardwalk hotel in Ocean City, Maryland. I also worked for the Harrison Group for 10 years.
What is the toughest part of your job right now?
The toughest part of my job now is being closed for the season. It’s a little quiet right now as we prepare for the opening later this month. I’m ready for the busy spring and summer to start, for warmer weather, and smiling guests!
What has been your greatest success thus far in your career?
My greatest success in my career to date is learning how to have a healthy balance between work and home life. I am the mother to 3 beautiful children. Two girls and one boy between the ages of 6 and 12. They are my motivation in everything I do in life. They encourage me to be the best person I can be with everyone I meet, especially to all our guests and staff here at Beach View.
What was your fondest memory of a customer?
Over the years, I have gained many fond memories of numerous guests. One that stands out was a couple who would stay for extended amounts of time at a property where I used to work. During each visit, Mrs. V. would bring me a special homemade treat. From spaghetti sauce to cookies. She knew sweets were my favorite.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I have time off, I like to read, garden and spend time with family and friends. I love sharing time with them outside, at the beach, or if the weather isn’t the best – watching HGTV or docuseries.
What is one thing very few people know about you?
Not many people know that I am the youngest of 3 children. It might seem common to be the baby of the family, but there is a substantial age gap between my siblings and I. My brother is 21 years older than me and my sister is 22 years older than me.
Who do you admire, or look up to, and why?
I admire my late grandfather’s, Aldon and William. They were both born in the early 1900s and lived past age 90. I’m here today because of them. When I was young, they had huge gardens. We rarely went to the store for fruits or vegetables because we grew so much. I have a small garden today because of what I learned from them. They also instilled strong family values and work ethic in me at a young age that are still with me to this day. History and pride that I am passing onto my own kids.
