Here at Beach View Hotel, we love spending time at the beach. But did you know the area also has a rich history to offer? There are some historical events coming up in April that you won’t want to miss!
Head to the Fort Miles historic area on April 21 from 7:30 pm-9:00 pm to tour Battery 519 by lantern light with trained Delaware State Parks’ guides! You’ll learn about German U-boats on the prowl and what World War II was really like for soldiers stationed at Fort Miles. The lantern tour is for ages 10 and older, with a paying adult, and limited to 30 people. Pre-registration is required by calling 302-644-5007. Admission is $5 per person.
On April 28 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, watch a reenactment of the 1945 surrender of a German U-boat at Fort Miles! Historians in period gear and vintage vehicles will reenact the event. There will also be firing demonstrations, guest speakers, live music, food, and more. The Fort Miles Museum will be open during the event. Admission is $5 per person.
A special film and guest lecture for the Fort Miles Historical Association will also take place during the Delaware Goes to War event. The Association is hosting a special visit from Tim Nosal, chief of external affairs for the American Battle Monuments Commission. Mr. Nosal will explain how the ABMC manages the overseas cemeteries for our fallen heroes. Tickets will be available the day of the event, April 28, in the Fort Miles Museum.
